The Teacher Education Program of the University was visited for ocular evaluation in application for Center of Excellence by CHED Technical Panel Chaired by Dr. Purita Bilbao, with member Dr. Felicitas Pado and OPSD representative Ms. Lovette Jardiolin in October 20, 2015. The visit was a successful one. The College is helpful for its positive result.

The Third year students enrolled is Research I under Dr. Pedrito Jose V. Bermudo did their proposal defense on October 10, 2015. There eighteen (18) groups who did the proposal simultaneously. All groups did well. Congratulations


COED Students Moment of Contemplation

The first batch of students, composed of first year and partly second year held their recollection on October 27,28 at Sol Viento, Calamba City. The former schedule was October 18-19, 2015 but due to typhoon Landoit was rescheduled on the stated date. The Change of date worth it ensuring the safety of the students likewise enjoy the place and activities. All is well that ends well.


Brief History

The College of Education together with Nutrition and Dietetics started its operation in School year 1997-1998 and Bachelor of Library and Information Services started its operation on1995-1996. The college was blessed with its first dean in the name of the late Dr. Remedios L. Cristobal in 1977-1996. It was followed by the Dr. Arabella R. Caguia in 1997-2008 and in 2009, Dr Jose Romano O. Jalop started his office as the dean of the college up to the present with the existing population of 239 students.
          
There are three Education Programs in this department namely: Bachelor in Secondary Education (BSE), Bachelor in Elementary Education (BEED) and Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS). Both Education Programs were given Government Recognition on November 12, 1985 and June 8, 1990 respectively and the rest is history. The Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities – Commission on Accreditation (PACU-COA) accredited the two Education Programs (BSE and BEED) as Level III Re-accredited Status.

BLIS PROGRAM

•  Participate in continuing professional advancement.

 

Bachelor of Elementary Education with specialization as Generalist, Pre- School and Special Education Teachers (212 units)

The BEED program aims to develop students who can teach in their area of qualification across the different levels of Education. Generalist teacher can teach all subjects both primary and intermediate level. Pre –school teacher can teach Early Education enhanced with K-12 Program Education. Special Education teacher can teach in Special School with an active International Linkage of Exchange Program on which the teacher can teach Sign Language and Brail Education.

Bachelor of Secondary Education (209/212 units) caters high school program up to senior high school or grade 11 and grade 12 curricula. The secondary teachers can teach across the curriculum. It aims to develop students who are competitive, dedicated and committed in the field of teaching. It has six specialized
major courses and is envisioned to train future teachers who will play active roles in studying, researching and improving Secondary Education particularly English, Bio- Science, Mathematics, Filipino, Social Studies and MAPEH. 

Bachelor of Library Information Science (194 units) The BLIS program aims to graduate dynamic students who are experts in providing quality library services and can work effectively and contribute positively to their future organizations, clients and profession.

Education Modular Approach Program (EMAP) - (30 units) a modular program that aims to produce effective educators taking up professional subjects in Education. This program caters all graduates who are non- educators but willing and persevering to become one of the best teachers in the world. This program opens the gate of opportunities for professionals who are dreaming to become teachers and to be qualified for Licensure Examination for Teachers. It is one of a kind program in the entire region on which education will be taken for one semester with a total number of 30 units for professional subjects.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES (PO)

Upon completion of the program, graduates shall possess the following knowledge and abilities:

  • Have the basic higher level literacy, communication, numeracy, critical thinking, learning skills needed for higher learning;
  • Have deep and principled understanding of the learning processes and the role of the teacher in facilitating these processes in their students;
  • Have a deep and principled understanding of how educational processes relate to larger historical, social, cultural, and political processes;
  • Have a meaningful and comprehensive knowledge of the subject matter they will teach;
  • Can apply a wide range of teaching process skills (including curriculum development, lesson planning, materials development, educational assessment, and teaching approaches;
  • Have direct experience in the field/classroom (e.g. classroom observation, teaching professions);
  • Can demonstrate and practice the professional and ethical requirements of the teaching professions;
  • Can facilitate learning diverse type of learners, in diverse types of learning environments, using a wide range of teaching knowledge and skills;
  • Can reflect on the relationships among the teaching process skills, the learning processing in the students, the nature of the content/subject matter, and the broader social forces encumbering the school and educational processes in order to constantly improve their teaching knowledge skills and practices;
  • Can be creative and innovative in thinking of alternative teaching approaches, take informed risks in trying out these innovative approaches, and evaluate the effectiveness of such approaches in improving student learning; and
  • Are willing and capable to continue learning in order to better fulfill their mission as teachers.

Bachelor of Library and Information Science

  • Professional competencies, which relate to the knowledge of information sources, access, technology and management, and the ability to use the knowledge as a basis for providing the highest quality information services;
  • Personal competencies, which represent a set attitudes, skills and values that will enable students to work effectively and contribute positively to their future organizations, clients and professionals.
