“Candle Making Seminar / Workshop”

The College of Business and Accountancy (CBA) with the Community Outreach Department (COD) of the University of Perpetual Help System Laguna (UPHSL) conducted an activity last September 27, 2016 entitled “Candle Making Seminar/Workshop” at the People’s Park, Brgy. Zapote, City of Biñan, Laguna.

The activity aimed to educate out of school youth and mothers to have the knowledge in making candles helping them to become entrepreneurs even with a small capital. Likewise, the program can improve the lives of the beneficiaries by means of their newly acquired business idea.

“1st Colleges and Universities Public Service Conference”

The College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Education with the Community Outreach Department of the University of Perpetual Help System Laguna (UPHSL) conducted an activity entitled “Reorganization of Learning Resource Center” last January 15, 2016, held in Daycare Center of the University’s adopted barangay, the Brgy. San Antonio, City of Biñan, Laguna.

The activity aimed to reorganize the Learning Resource Center created last 2014 by the College of Education. Different activities were also implemented such as: school supplies and health kit giving , repainting of the room, donation and arranging of books, and some beautifications. Storytelling and Gift Giving Activity

The College of Arts & Sciences together with the Community Outreach Department of the University of Perpetual Help System Laguna conducted an outreach program for the benefit of the selected Grade 1 pupils of Pedro H. Escueta Memorial School, Barangay San Antonio, City of Biñan, Laguna last February 3, 2016.

The program was spearheaded by Fourth Year Psychology students of UPHSL. School supplies were given to forty (40) selected beneficiaries after the storytelling session. Learning materials were donated by volunteer students from the institution. “We want to share our blessings to the little ones that needed it most”, as stated by one of the participants. Indeed, a character that our University wants us to have “a true Perpetualite as helper of God”.

UPHS SUPPORTS SM FOUNDATION MEDICAL MISSION

The University of Perpetual Help System supports the medical mission of SM Foundation by giving them manpower assistance and venue for the activity. It was spearheaded by JONELTA Foundation, one of the implementing arm of the system when it comes to cheaper health services. Different ctivities were conducted such as medical, dental, laboratory examinations, and many more. The beneficiaries came from the barangay residents of the first district of Laguna.

PROVINCE OF LAGUNA MEDICAL MISSION JOINS BY UPHS VOLUNTEERS

The Medical Mission of the Province of Laguna was joined by the volunteers coming from the University of Perpetual Help System Laguna and UPH- Dr. Jose G. Tamayo Medical University facilitated by the Office of the External Affairs with its Director Dr. Josefa G. Carrillo. Activities rendered during the mission were: medical check up with free medicines, dental services, legal consultation, eye check-up with free eyeglasses, livelihood trainings, job fair, wellness programs, and many others. It was a whole day affair participated by the residents coming from twenty four (24) barangays in the City of Binan, City officials, and Province of Laguna officials headed by Governor Ramil Hernandez.

UPHSL participates in the 19th National Senior Educators Assembly

UPHSL Director for External Affairs, Dr. Josefa G. Carrillo attended the 19th National Senior Educators’ Assembly on Environmental Protection and Management with the theme: “Disaster Risk Reduction and Management for Sustainable Development : Issues and Strategies” last July 10-11, 2014 at Villa del Rey Hotel, Camarines Sur Water Sports Complex, Pili, Camarines Sur.

The two-day live-in seminar was sponsored by the Philippine Association of Tertiary Level Educational Institutions in Environmental Protection and Management (PATLEPAM) in partnership with EMB-DENR, wherein the University is one of the member institutions. The assembly was participated by different State Colleges and Universities, and private tertiary institutions in the Philippines. It was hosted by Central Bicol State University of Agriculture with Dr. Cely Binoya as the emcee. The welcome remarks was delivered by Dr. Georgina Bordado, President Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) followed by messages of Dr. Ruth Guzman, Board of Directors PATLEPAM; Regional Director Roberto Sheen, Environmental Management Bureau of Region 5; and Dr. George Colorado, Regional Director, Commission on Higher Education of Region 5 also.

Furthermore, the recent Philippine disasters and governments’ response were presented during the plenary sessions with the following titles: Typhoon Yolanda: Leyte Experience by Dr. Dominador Aguirre, Jr., President, Eastern Visayas State University; Porject Twin Phoenix (Typhoon Sendong): The Cagayan de Oro and IIligan City Experiences and Immediate Response by Dr. Elpidio Magante, President, Bohol Island State University; Siege in Zamboanga by Dr. Jihan Hashim – Adil, Head, Environmental Engineering Department, Western Mindanao State University; The Ecotown Approach for Green Growth and Climate Resiliency in the Upper Marikina River Basin Protected Landscape by Dr. Nicomedes Briones, UPLB School for Environmental Science and Management; Global Universities Program for Environmental Sustainability (GUPES) Capabilility Assessment by Dr. Ruth Guzman of Rizal Technological University.

Parallel sessions with different sub themes on capacities, tools, and practices for disaster risk reduction and management were also presented by the different participating and member tertiary institutions. The last day of the gathering was intended for PATLEPAM Assembly Meeting Cum Workshop and Action Planning. It was ended by a field tour at the San Bernardino Village and Climate Resilient Initiatives (Organic Farming, Coastal Resource Management, etc) in CBSUA; and Basilica de Penafrancia in Naga City.

The University of Perpetual Help System Laguna – Binan Campus through its Director for External Affairs, Dr. Josefa G. Carrillo had a courtesy call to the Acting Governor Honorable Ramil Hernandez last June 25, 2014 at the Provincial Capitol in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.

The Province of Laguna has been a partner of the University for a long time in giving community services to the Lagunenses especially the health programs. Some of the provincial scholars in different courses are also part of the student population of the University. With the Acting Governor, UPHSL hopes that more partnership programs will be implemented to help the needy constituents of Laguna.

The awarding ceremony of the Search for the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP), CALABARZON Regional Finalists was joined by two (2) students of the University of Perpetual Help System Laguna Binan Campus at the Concepcion-Carrier Light Industry and Science Park of the Philippines, Energy St., Sor. With the twelve (12) finalists, four (4) were chosen to represent the region in the Search for the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines national level. Kristine Joy P. Calayeg, BS Psychology of the Lyceum of the Philippines University - Laguna; Jamaica P. Castillo, BA Communication Arts of the First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities; Gerard Jericho B. Ronquillo, BS Civil Engineering of the University of the Philippines - Los Banos; and Masako N. Tawara, BSBA Marketing management of the Lyceum of the Philippines were among them. All of the finalists will be part of the TOSPIAN alumni community for TOSP 2014 Region IV - A.

On the other hand, UPHSL Director for External Affairs, Dr. Josefa G. Carrillo received two (2) certificates for the University of Perpetual Help System - Laguna, the Certificate of Appreciation given for being the Regional Partner in the 2014 Search for the TOSP - Region IV - A and a Certificate of Recognition awarded to the school whose officials and faculty have inculcated in their students a deep sense of commitment to superior academic performance, servant leadership and social responsibility, anchored on good moral values, as exemplified by their student who has been chosen as finalist in the program. Present also in the awarding was Ms. Jing Rosaroso of the SPS department.

This great endeavor is an annual search done by the RFM Foundation, Inc. in partnership with Commission on Higher Education, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company, TOSP Alumni Community and the TOSP Alumni Community - Region IV - A Chapter.

Attended the PAPSCU Excellent Academic Research Link (PEARL) Seminar-Workshop: Writing for International Publication 10th Floor, Building 7 of Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Manila April 10-12, 2013

The PAPSCU Excellent Academic Research Link ( PEARL) seminar workshop entitled “Writing for International Publication” was held last April 10-12, 2014 at the 10th Floor, Building 7 of Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Manila with the theme: Enhancing Research Capability of Faculty of Selected PAPSCU-HEIs Through Mentoring and Monitoring”.

The three-day live in seminar was initiated by PAPSCU Excellent Academic Research Link (PEARL) in collaboration with Fund for Assistance to Private Education (FAPE). This workshop represents the second part of a series of seminars done last 2012-2013. The aim of PEARL is to publish a research report to international refereed journals coming from the output of the attendees from the first activity . It has a long term goal of developing a vibrant research culture and dynamic collaborations among the member-institutions. Target date to be submitted to the international publications will be on June 2014.

Moreover, Dr. Allan de Guzman, 2011 Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Teacher in Higher Education, and Faculty of Graduate School University of Sto. Tomas was the facilitator of the activity. It was hosted by EAC Manila and supported by the President of PAPSCU & EAC Dr. Jose Paulo E. Campos who also delivered the welcome remarks. The program was chaired by Dr. Socorro Rodriguez, research director of the said school.

On the other hand, the PEARL core group was composed of Baliuag University, Central Luzon College of Science & Technology, Emilio Aguinaldo College, IETI College of Science and Technology, Jose Rizal University, Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas, Manila Central University, Martinez Memorial College, Saint Michael’s College of Laguna, Southern Luzon Institute, technological Institute of the Philippines, Tomas Claudio Memorial College, and our institution the University of Perpetual Help

Participated as UPHS-INB and NGO’S representative in the On-site Validation for the Search for “The Most Outstanding City Mayor” (Regional Level) in the 2014 National Literacy Awards Multi-purpose Hall, Binan City May 6, 2014

The University of Perpetual Help System representatives participated in the on-site validation of Binan City for the Search for “The Most Outstanding City Mayor”Regional Level in the 2014 National Literacy Awards. It was done at the Multi-purpose Hall, Binan City last May 6, 2014.

Evaluators coming from different sectors of the regional committee came to the area to validate the documents passed by City Education Office of Binan City. On site validation and visitation of the different places like the City Hall, Alonte Sports Arena, PUP Binan, Soulthville 5-A ALS (CLC), Ryonan Building, Museum and City Library, Binan Elementary School (ALS Mobile Library, ALS Building, SPED School, Ospital ng Binan, and City Health Office were among the places selected.

On the other hand, during the program, the City Mayor of Binan, Hon. Marlyn Alonte-Naguiat was introduced to the members of the evaluation committee. Power point presentation of the accomplishments in the literacy programs specifically the ALS were done. It was followed by a question and answer portion to clarify details of the program.

With the accomplishments presented during the on-site validation, another pride of Binan, a Champion in the Literacy Program, it seems that Hon. Marlyn Alonte Naguiat will be called in the 2014 National Literacy Awarding Ceremony.
