Mission

The Research Center is committed to set directions, implement effective programs and establish supportive mechanisms for the research community to generate researches that will create a lasting impact for growth and development in the academe, among the stakeholders, and the community as a whole.

Vision

In harmony with the University of Perpetual Help System‟s commitment to national development and transformation through character building and quality education, UPHSL Research Center believes that education can excel through the development of a strong, research and service-oriented academic community ─ a community in which the members are resourceful, value driven, and dedicated─ sustained by a continuous capacity building.

Goals


  • Promote innovation, knowledge genera-tion and intellectual contribution from the administrators, faculty, staff, and students. (From Dev Plan 2011-2015)

  • With the end-goal of excellence in research, the Center aims to establish a dynamic, highly effective and cost-efficient research culture whose programs and directions are anchored along the thrusts of the government, Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and the learning institution as well.
Quality Objectives



  • To provide functional and efficient research capability building seminars and trainings;
  • To enjoin and monitor faculty members’ participation in the conduct of quality and relevant researches;
  • To assist researchers in producing scholarly researches worthy of presentation in local and international fora and publication in local and international refereed journals.
  • To utilize research outputs for the improvement of the university and the community.

Bangkok International Conference on Social Science (BICSS)

Dr. Ma. Lindie Masalinto and Dr. Antonio Yango presented their papers in the Bangkok International Conference on Social Science (BICSS 2014) last January 18-20 in Bangkok Thailand together with their co-authors Dr.Pedrito Bermudo and Prof AnnalizaMalalay. Dr. Masalinto also served as a session chair in the said event aside from being a presenter with her paper entitled “The extent of Use of Coping Mechanisms among Selected Faculty of UPHSL-JONELTA”. Dr Yango’s paper is entitled “Laguna Industries Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program.

Intellectual Property Rights Basic Orientation Seminar

Retooling on Thesis/Dissertation Advising

With the University of Perpetual Help System Laguna Research Center as the prime mover toward the University’s research productivity, a seminar entitled “Retooling on Thesis/Dissertation Advising” was conducted last July 20, 2013 at the Performing Arts Theatre. Deans and faculty members from the different colleges attended the said seminar with Ms. Ma. Xenia Z. Bitera, the University’s Research Director as the main speaker.

CIHM Faculty Mentoring

The activity was organized with the aim to appraise the knowledge of the CIHM faculty members in writing a research study in international publication format. It was held last January 29, 2014 with 11 participants at the CIHM – Coffee Shop with Ms. Xenia Bitera, Research Director as the lecturer.

The activity commenced with an opening prayer and the introduction of the guest lecturer. Ms. Bitera updated the participants regarding the most recent requirements for CHED Typology Visit establishing research as a separate area or component for Higher Education. IMRAD as a format of research writing was also given emphasis as a new requirement.

Ms. Bitera presented the distinction between the thesis format and the IMRAD format. She also emphasized that in writing the IMRAD format the introduction should include the following: the area of interest of the researcher, findings of the previous authors who worked on the same area of research and what gaps can be identified based on previous researches. In the Methodology part of the study, a brief description of the sample, sampling technique, determination of size, and study site must be included. It should also include the instrumentation and data collection procedure, the data treatment and analysis as well as the ethical considerations of the study.
