Congratulations to Jerian Mari R. Miguel, Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering student from the University of Perpetual Help System Laguna for winning the First Prize in the Poster Making Contest during the second World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development (WED2021), with the theme “Engineering for A Healthy Planet- Celebrating the UNESCO Engineering Report”.
World Engineering Day is celebrated worldwide every year during the month of March since 2020. The day offers an opportunity to highlight engineers and engineering’s achievements in our modern world and improve public understanding of how engineering and technology are integral to modern life and sustainable development.
On February 8, 2021, the WED2021 Poster Design Competition was officially launched, after a month of appraisal, Jerian Mari R. Miguel got the First Prize. A total of six judges participated in the scoring. They rated the posters from the following three aspects, with a full score of 100. First, Theme (the theme of the poster is clear and prominent and fits the theme of the competition). Second, Creativity (posters have novel ideas, coordinated colors, complete composition, good visual effects). Lastly, Thoughtfulness (the poster is full of connotation, making people want to know more about engineering and sustainable development).
Ms. Miguel illustrates her winning piece stating that, “Everyone is searching for ways to fix the damage done to our environment, but engineers are making major strides towards this goal. The half mechanical gear and half Earth represent the engineering of our planet to fight climate change. Furthermore, engineers are bringing sustainable sources of energy to the forefront with inventions like solar panels and wind turbines, thus the green Earth and vibrant background connote the healthiness of our planet. Additionally the hands of the robot and human reaching out to each other with a plant in the soil symbolizes the collaboration of humans (engineers) and modern technology working together in making the Earth a better place for everyone, now and into the future.”
Again, Congratulations! The entire Perpetualite Community is very proud of you.
