In compliance to the Arts and Design curriculum, as stipulated by the Department of Education, the students from Grade 12-Topaz were tasked to produce a show. The introduction of the new normal, along with the implementation of the distance learning, the artists and staff decided to not push through with a live theatre show in compliance with national and local health guidelines. Thus, they will be producing self-tape performances that will be virtually streamed.
The show will be featuring a set of Acting The Song performances. Acting The Song is a program and/or methodical approach to performing musical theatre songs. Through this approach, musical theatre performers will be able to render a song in an authentic, truthful, and personal performance, revolving around contexts, subtexts, and nuances.
An accessible performance for the entertainment and education of the public is one of the objectives of this culmination showcase. Reaching a range of audiences who may lack opportunity to see such shows due to cultural, geographic, economic, or mobility constraints is one of the goals of the artists; to prove that Art is not only for the elites to enjoy.
BAGGAGES: A Self-Tape Acting The Song Culmination Showcase, with monologues written by Ronelle David Cabatan, and directed by Bryan Ladim will be virtually live-streamed on February 25 & 26, 2021 at 6:00PM via the UPHSL-Arts and Design Page.
