MEDICAL-DENTAL MISSION
Oral health remains a significant concern in many Filipino communities, especially among underprivileged sectors with limited access to proper dental care. Untreated dental issues can lead to chronic pain, infections, and difficulty in eating or speaking— affecting overall well-being. Despite being preventable, dental problems often remain unaddressed due to socioeconomic barriers and lack of awareness, making oral health an important yet frequently overlooked aspect of public health.
To help address this need, the Biñan Medical Society joined forces with Nightingale’s Promise of Care, the outreach arm of the College of Nursing at the University of Perpetual Help System Laguna, for a MedicalDental Mission on February 9, 2025, held at Dr. Marcelino Batista School in Brgy. San Jose, Biñan City, Laguna. The initiative provided not just dental care but a range of medical services to benefit the wider community.
During the mission, beneficiaries received free oral consultations, tooth extractions, and dental hygiene education, alongside medical check-ups, capillary blood glucose (CBG) monitoring, and free medications for common illnesses and chronic conditions. The integration of both dental and medical services ensured a more holistic approach to health, addressing both immediate and long-term needs of the residents.
Nursing students from Nightingale’s Promise of Care played an active role by assisting in operations, guiding patients, and extending compassionate care throughout the activity. The mission was made possible by the dedication of volunteers, healthcare professionals, and generous partners who came together with one purpose: to uplift lives through accessible healthcare—one check-up, one conversation, and one smile at a time.
