On May 23, 2024, We had the honor of serving as the program chair for our schools annual Community Outreach Program (COP) held at the Municipality of Siniloan, Laguna. Community outreach programs are a vital aspect of our school’s mission to provide a holistic education. These programs not only benefit the community but also enrich the educational experience of students, preparing them to be engaged and responsible members of society. Through outreach, our school fulfills its role as a pivotal community institution contributing to the social, economic, and cultural development of local areas.
The first step in our outreach initiative involved securing approval from the local authorities. Accompanied by our dedicated team, we visited Hon. Mayor Patrick Elliz Z. Go to Siniloan, Laguna, to discuss our project. Mayor Go’s enthusiastic support was instrumental in moving forward with our plans. His signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) marked the official endorsement and cooperation between our school and the municipality, ensuring the project’s success. We then proceeded to Barangay Macatad to inform the residents that their barangay had been selected for our project, focusing on enhancing street lighting infrastructure to improve safety, security, and quality of life.
Our team, consisting of faculty, staff, and student volunteers, worked diligently to execute the project. The highlight of our outreach was the installation of solar streetlights in Barangay Macatad. This initiative was designed to improve nighttime visibility, decrease accidents, deter crime, and boost economic activity, thereby contributing to environmental sustainability. The residents of Siniloan, Laguna, demonstrated exceptional hospitality and camaraderie, making our team feel welcome and appreciated.
STREETLIGHT INSTALLATION
Their eagerness to learn and participate was truly inspiring. As the program chair, I also had the opportunity to learn and grow through this experience. Organizing and leading the outreach program allowed me to develop my leadership and project management skills. It was gratifying to see our efforts make a tangible difference in the community and to receive positive feedback from the residents.
The success of this community outreach program would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of several key individuals and departments. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the faculty members, Engr. Nancy P. Mercado and Engr. Raye Rhouieze Miranda, as well as the International and External Affairs team, Ms. Josefa G. Carrillo and MS. Anne C. Veracruz. Special thanks go to the Community Outreach Department, including Sec. Maricel S. Getape and COD Head Ms. Clarisse Anne G. Lebios.
The “Electrical Safety and Streetlight Installation” community outreach program has been a commendable endeavor with multifaceted benefits. It served as a platform for educating individuals about crucial safety practices and empowered them with practical skills to enhance their daily lives. Moreover, the program fostered a sense of unity and collaboration within the community, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring safety and well-being. Looking ahead, I see immense potential for similar initiatives to continue making meaningful contributions to community development and resilience. By prioritizing education, engagement, and proactive measures, we can create safer and more vibrant communities for everyone. This experience has reinforced my belief in the power of community outreach to drive positive change and has inspired me to continue supporting such initiatives in the future.
