Protecting Our Oceans Together: UPHSL and PCG-MEPCOM Partnership for Marine Conservation and Community Engagement
The International and External Affairs Office (IEAO) of the University of Perpetual Help System Laguna (UPHSL), led by its Director, Dr. Josefa G. Carrillo, and Ms. Clarisse Anne G. Lebios, Officer-in-Charge of the Community Outreach Department, held a meeting today with representatives from the Philippine Coast Guard Marine Environment Protection Enforcement and Response Group Council (PCG-MEPCOM). The focus of the meeting was for the project “Task Force Ingat Yamang Dagat.” This prospective partnership is expected to yield comprehensive strategies that integrate educational resources through its community outreach endeavors. The joint efforts of UPHSL and PCG-MEPCOM promise to set a new benchmark for maritime environmental protection and academic community engagement not only in Binan City, but as well as with the nearby areas. The “Task Force Ingat Yamang Dagat” Initiative signifies a key collaborative effort between the University of Perpetual Help System Laguna (UPHSL) and the Philippine Coast Guard Marine Environment Protection Enforcement and Response Group Council (PCG-MEPCOM) in support of Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water, which advocates for the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources. Anchored on the principles of maritime safety, environmental protection, and community engagement, the partnership seeks to foster academic involvement in safeguarding marine ecosystems through research, innovation, and volunteer-driven outreach programs. Guided by the leadership of Dr. Josefa G. Carrillo, Director of the International and External Affairs Office, and Ms. Clarisse Anne G. Lebios, Officer-in-Charge of the Community Outreach Department, the initiative integrates UPHSL’s educational and community-oriented resources with PCG-MEPCOM’s operational expertise. By promoting marine conservation awareness and advancing programs that strengthen maritime protection, the collaboration aspires to create a model of academic-government synergy that enhances environmental stewardship and community participation within Biñan City and its neighboring coastal areas.
