UPHSL- International and External Affairs Office Lead Strong Presence at CHED ICONS Awards 2025

Dr. Josefa G. Carrillo, Director of the International and External Affairs Office of the University of Perpetual Help System Laguna (UPHSL), continues to champion the University’s international engagement and institutional sustainability initiatives, strengthening UPHSL’s presence in both national and global platforms. Her active participation in major institutional events reflects UPHSL’s strong commitment to internationalization, community development, and strategic partnerships aligned with the University’s mission of service and excellence.

With Dr. Carrillo’s leadership and representation, UPHSL proudly participated in the CHED ICONS Awards held on December 10, 2025, at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC). The prestigious event was attended by Chancellor Dr. Ferdinand C. Somido, marking another milestone in UPHSL’s growing national and international recognition.

During the awards ceremony, further adding to UPHSL’s recognition, the Association of International Relations Officers (AIRO), under the leadership of Dr. Carrillo as its President, was also honored as First Runner-Up in the Most Promising IRO Community Category. Dr. Carrillo’s leadership and vision have been instrumental in advancing the organization’s mission to foster collaboration, strengthen international relations, and create opportunities that benefit both students and the academic community. This recognition reflects UPHSL’s growing influence and strong presence in the field of international education and institutional partnerships.

Beyond national acclaim, UPHSL continues to expand its international standing through its inclusion in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025 (Rank 1001–1500) and the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) 2025, where it was placed in the Top 201–299. These global recognitions affirm the University’s dedication to sustainability, innovation, and transformative education that prepares students to become globally competitive and socially responsible leaders.

Moreover, UPHSL was recognized as First Runner-Up for the CHED Internationalization (IZN) Awards: Sustainability Award for Private Higher Education Institutions, in recognition of its transformative literacy initiative, “Reach and Read: Spreading Literacy, One Community at a Time.” The program reflects UPHSL’s dedication to empowering communities by providing access to literacy resources, strengthening educational opportunities, and promoting sustainable development through long-term community-based interventions. This achievement underscores the University’s continuing efforts to translate its advocacy for education into meaningful programs that uplift lives and create lasting impact.

Through the strong leadership of Dr. Josefa G. Carrillo and the International and External Affairs Office, UPHSL continues to demonstrate excellence in internationalization, sustainability, and community empowerment. These achievements further strengthen the University’s commitment to creating meaningful impact—one program, one partnership, and one community at a time.
