Policy Guidelines on the Education Modular Approach Program (EMAP)

This program is specifically designed for non-Education degree holders who aspire to become licensed professional teachers through an alternative, modular, and flexible pathway. EMAP represents an alternative entry pathway into the teaching profession and aligns with international benchmarks.
I. Policy Statement
The University of Perpetual Help System Laguna (UPHSL) reaffirms its commitment to providing inclusive, accessible, and flexible education by offering the Education Modular Approach Program (EMAP). This program is specifically designed for non-Education degree holders who aspire to become licensed professional teachers through an alternative, modular, and flexible pathway. II. Objectives
- To provide a professional teaching track for non-Education graduates.
- To recognize and accredit prior academic and work experiences related to teaching.
- To facilitate career shifts into education through a flexible and accessible modular system.
- To align UPHSL's offerings with international standards for alternative entry into higher education.
III. Definition of Terms
EMAP (Education Modular Approach Program): A specialized modular academic program for graduates of non-Education degrees who wish to pursue a career in teaching.
Alternative Entry Pathway: A route to higher education or professional qualification that does not rely solely on standard admission criteria such as national exams or academic background.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): A process of evaluating and accrediting knowledge and skills gained through work or informal education.
IV. Scope
This policy applies to all non-Education degree holders applying for the EMAP at the undergraduate or post-baccalaureate level.
V. Eligibility Criteria for admission
Teaching Experience Equivalency:
Applicants with at least 1-2 years of teaching experience (formal or informal) may be given credit or exemption for specific modules.
Non-Education Degree Holders:
Must possess a baccalaureate degree in any field other than Education. Official Transcipt of records required.
Mature Student Pathway:
Applicants aged 25 and above who seek to shift careers may undergo assessment and personal interviews as part of the admission process.
Licensure Preparation:
The program is structured to prepare students for the government Licensure Examination for Teachers(LET).
VI. Admission Process
- Submission of academic credentials and application form.
- Interview and screening by the EMAP Admissions Panel.
- Diagnostic testing (if required).
- Issuance of acceptance letter and enrollment into modular courses.
- Portfolio of previous or current experiences related to teaching.
VII. Program Structure
- Delivered through flexible, self-paced modules.
- Blended or hybrid learning available.
- Courses aligned with CHED and PRC requirements for teaching licensure.
- Includes Field Study and Practice Teaching components.
VIII. Support and Monitoring
- Academic advising and mentoring for all enrollees.
- Tracking of academic progress and LET readiness.
- Provision of review support and consultation.
